The short version: SoloFly collects only the information needed to deliver our free certification program. We never sell your data. We take extra care to protect information about minors. If you have questions, email us at privacy@soloflycert.com.

1. Who We Are

SoloFly ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website soloflycert.com and provides a free educational certification program that teaches teens ages 11–17 to fly independently. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our website and services.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Parent/Guardian Information

  • Full name
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Relationship to the teen

Teen Information

  • First and last name
  • Date of birth (to verify eligibility, ages 11–17)
  • Email address
  • Cell phone number (optional)
  • Gender (optional)
  • Mailing address (optional, for profile completion)
  • Flight experience level

Assessment and Certification Data

  • Assessment scores and results
  • Certification status and ID
  • Certification dates

Technical Information

  • We use essential cookies and local storage for authentication (login tokens). We do not use tracking cookies, analytics cookies, or any third-party advertising trackers.

3. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

We take children's privacy seriously. SoloFly is designed for teens ages 11–17 and requires verifiable parental consent before any teen account is created.

  • No teen account can be created without a parent or guardian first registering and providing consent.
  • We collect only the minimum information necessary to deliver the certification program.
  • We do not collect information from children under 11.
  • We never sell, rent, or share children's personal information with third parties for commercial purposes.
  • Parents may review, update, or request deletion of their teen's information at any time by emailing privacy@soloflycert.com.
  • Parents may revoke consent and request account deletion at any time.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage user accounts
  • Deliver the SoloFly curriculum and assessment
  • Issue and verify digital certifications
  • Send registration confirmation and certification emails
  • Communicate important account or service updates
  • Respond to support requests

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing to minors, behavioral profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the SoloFly certification program.

5. How We Share Your Information

We never sell your data. We may share limited information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use Supabase (database hosting) and Resend (email delivery) to operate our service. These providers process data only on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy commitments.
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or governmental request.
  • Safety: We may share information if we believe it is necessary to protect the safety of a child or prevent harm.

We do not share data with airlines, advertisers, data brokers, or any other third parties for commercial purposes.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:

  • Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and never stored in plain text
  • Authentication uses encrypted JSON Web Tokens (JWT)
  • Database access is restricted and encrypted in transit
  • We regularly review our security practices

No system is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach affecting your information, we will notify affected users promptly.

7. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as the account is active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Assessment records may be retained in anonymized form for program improvement.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you or your teen
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Withdraw consent for your teen's participation at any time
  • Export your data in a portable format

9. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to external websites (such as airline policy pages). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify registered users by email and update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of SoloFly after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
